INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR SHERYL SWINGLEY

After 68 semesters, Professor Sheryl Swingley will be stepping down from the role as internship coordinator for the journalism department.

Swingley has assisted more than 3,200 journalism students with their internship requirement.

She has had 15 years of real-world experience outside of academia in which she brings to her classes.

“I have always valued being resourceful and being internship coordinator has allowed to me to use my resourcefulness,” she said.

Swingley has developed the professional development seminar, which helps students improve their résumé and cover letters for internships and future careers.

Journalism instructor Brian Hayes will take over as internship coordinator. Swingley said the transition will be difficult, but she has faith in Hayes’s abilities to take over the position of Internship Coordinator.

“There is no magic syllabus, everyone does things differently,” she said.
